Letter Writing There are a few simple rules. Always be polite. This rule is essential and invariable. Your aim is to help stop human rights abuses, not to relieve your own feelings. Governments don't respond to abusive or condemnatory letters (however well deserved). Always go on the basis that the government concerned is open to reason and discussion. It is important where possible to stress a country's reputation for moderation and justice, to show respect for its constitution and judicial procedures, and an understanding of current difficulties. This will give more scope to point out ways in which the human rights situation can be improved. Follow strictly the instructions given by Amnesty International in the case in question. For instance if you are asked to appeal for medical treatment for a prisoner, make sure that you request this, and not a speedy trial or release which might be appropriate in another case. Never use political jargon. Don't give the impression that you are writing because you are ideologically or politically opposed to the government in question. It is far more effective to stress the fact that your concern for human rights is not politically based in any way, but in keeping with basic principles of international law. It is preferable to give an indication of who and what you are. This indicates that the letter is genuine, and also shows that people from varying walks of life are following events in the country concerned. If you have any special interest or link with the country, it is a good idea to mention this in your letter. For instance, you may have visited it, studied its history, or been a member of a local association for friendship with it. Be brief. A simple, one line letter is adequate and is certainly better than no letter at all. A good rule is not to write more than one page (ie one side). Long letters are less likely to be read. Only in exceptional cases are long letters effective.

Protesting Always be peaceful and have someone record it on video. Under the Charter of Rights & Human Rights laws of Canada we are allowed to protest and have an opinion. be warned, the Children's Aid and Police are not required to follow these laws and do no allow it to happen. We reiterate a thousand times... that we are a peaceful group that will end CAS occupation and Police corruption. In the end make Canada a safe place and them accountable. Protecting Your Family First and most important thing we'll ever tell you is you, your spouse and the children must stay together until it's over. Second most important thing we'll ever tell you is to record everything!!!! Third and equally important DO NOT BREAK THE LAW! Do not cause any harm to these "people" as much as it may feel like it's in the best interest for your family to be taken seriously we must show them that doing the right thing will win! Tips For Gathering Evidence: You'll need proof and timelines of everything that happens. Trust us if your just starting out with these "people" you'll soon realize all they do is lie, use violent tactics and will make a case against you even if they know your innocent. Also if we can ever get an inquest in to the illegal behaviors of the traitors we'll have even more proof! Video record all visits by workers and police. Hide the camcorder or they may throw you in jail for defending your family (as they call it obstruction) and making them look bad. Also use a tape / voice recorder or mp3 player to record all audio conversations. Always have spare tapes! Try to let the answering machine catch all threats by the CAS or Police. If they leave threatening messages immediately use, Call Trace (Bell) *57 to file a Harassment Complaint. There is a $5 charge and a monthly maximum of $10. If the operator puts you thru let the Director know the injustices and beg for intervention. Another good one if you know the Directors full name is pressing # when the voicemail starts you'll usually be asked to spell the first four letters of the persons last name. Have it written out before calling or the following. eg 555-5555 # 1111 then # to accept this selection or some offer the option to press other numbers for the next name this option will bring you thru the entire system until you get the name :).. Most offices have backdoor numbers for staff to skip the voicemail system. Always write down the time and number they called from it may be that number. If they make a call from your home always do a redial the moment they leave and add it to your contact information... Unless your waiting for schedule information try let you answering machine record all phone calls. Email Systems Don't make any threats because it's fairly easy to track it back to you. Again remember were trying to make positive changes here. Manipulate them the way they do to you by pretending to send information you know they may need or you may call the office when you know they are gone and tell receptionist you need to send John Doe information and the email address jdoe@oacas.caa isn't working. If that doesn't work just call a week later and just ask for the email address.
